Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey welcomed the Housing Minister Kris Hopkins MP to Rugby last week to show him the town’s much lauded approach to building the homes hard-working local families need.
The Minister visited the new Eden Park development before being taken on a whistle-stop tour of other areas where much needed house-building is underway before being taken to view the Mast Site, where 6,000 new homes will soon be built. Mark and the Minister were joined by Rugby Borough Council Leader Cllr Craig Humphrey, Cllr Heather Timms and Senior council officers.
Mark said: “I was delighted to welcome the Housing Minister to Rugby in order that he could see first-hand the good things we are doing here to build new homes for hardworking local people.
“In Rugby we are experiencing both significant commercial development, providing more local jobs, as well as building the homes we need to allow our town to grow and prosper. This is thanks to the Government’s long-term economic plan and our local Conservative-led Borough Council’s positive approach to appropriate housing and commercial development.”
Housing Minister Kris Hopkins MP said: “I was pleased to hear how 130 people so far have been able to get on the property ladder in Rugby thanks to Help to Buy, and how Danielle hopes to follow in their footsteps in the near future. But Help to Buy is also getting Britain building, and sites like Eden Park are a key part of our long-term economic plan, to help local people into jobs building the homes the local community wants. And with plans for 6,000 new homes at the Mast Site in the pipeline, it’s clear developments in Rugby are a strong contribution to that.”
After visiting local housing development sites Mark and the Minister visited Danielle Baynton, a young local constituent, to discuss her experiences in the private rented sector and her encouragement that she will soon be able to buy her own home thanks to the Government’s Help to Buy Scheme which has already helped 108 people get onto the local housing ladder.
