Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed additional Government investment in Rugby and Bulkington’s schools, taking the total spent on our youngsters to £65 million in 2020-21.
This increase represents the largest funding boost in a decade and levels up per pupil funding to ensure that all schools have the right investment to deliver an outstanding education. As a result of this additional cash, every secondary school in Rugby and Bulkington will receive at least £5,000 per pupil and every primary school will receive at least £3,750 per pupil next year, rising to £4,000 per pupil in 2021-22.
On average, this means that schools in Rugby and Bulkington are benefitting from a 7.46% increase in their funding compared to the previous financial year.
To make sure this money reaches the classroom, the Government is also bringing forward changes to the school funding formula. This will create a nationally consistent funding formula, ensuring that schools are funded on the basis on the number and needs of the children they teach.
Welcoming the announcement, Mark said:
“Delivering for the next generation is rightly one of the priorities of the Government and I am delighted that we are already fulfilling our manifesto commitment to level up school funding. Every child deserves to receive a superb education, regardless of which school they attend or where they grew up, and this increase in school budgets will ensure that will happen.”
Mark continued:
“Warwickshire has historically been underfunded but thanks to the changes the Government is bringing forward, this discrepancy will end. Schools will receive funding based on the number of pupils they are teaching, putting all schools on a level playing field and ensuring that they get a world class education.”
Mark concluded:
“This means that schools in Rugby and Bulkington are getting a significant funding boost of over 7% compared to last year, with a total of £65 million being spent in our local schools.”
