Local MP Mark Pawsey has unveiled this year’s winning design for his Christmas card.
The competition was as popular as ever this year with nearly 100 entries from schools across Rugby. This year’s winning picture, chosen by Mark and his family, was designed by Lyra Harper from Abbots Farm Infant School.
Lyra, along with the three runners up whose pictures are featured inside Mark’s card, joined the local MP for a presentation ceremony at the Rugby Library last Friday where all of the entries were displayed. Mark presented each of the winners with a special prize from the House of Commons and a certificate to commemorate their achievement.
As the winner of the competition Lyra also won a visit to Westminster, where she and her family will be treated to a tour of the Houses of Parliament. Mark’s Christmas card featuring Lyra’s design has been delivered to local organisations, businesses, charities and community groups throughout Rugby and Bulkington.
Mark said:
“Once again, children from schools across Rugby sent a great many excellent entries for my annual Christmas Card competition. The quality is always very high and this year was no exception. Every child who entered should be proud because they were all really great designs which made it very difficult to choose a winner.”
Mark continued:
“I chose Lyra’s entry because it was so bright and lively and really captures the feeling of Christmas. I have already received very positive feedback from people who have received the card so Lyra should be really proud of her work.”
The runners up this year were Tanya Menon from St Maries Before & After School Club, Niya Koleva from Boughton Leigh Infant School and Chloe Elise Quilley from Paddox Primary School.
