I am proud to have had the privilege of representing my home town and the people of Rugby and Bulkington for the past seven years. At a meeting of Rugby Conservative Association last night I was re-selected to stand as the Conservative Party's Parliamentary Candidate at the General Election on June 8th.
We all recognise that this General Election will be one of the most important elections in our lives. The Prime Minister, Theresa May, has called it to ensure that the UK has the strongest hand to get the best deal as we go into negotiations to leave the European Union. In this, the Conservative Party has set out a plan for a prosperous and outward looking Britain with 12 negotiating objectives, including getting the best access to European Markets for our businesses; taking control of our own laws & borders; and protecting the rights of both EU nationals living in the UK & also of UK nationals living in the EU.
Since the referendum last year, I have spoken to residents throughout the constituency and I know that many local people are looking for a Government that will get on with the job of standing up for Britain. However, other parties in Westminster have consistently opposed our plan to get the right deal with the EU. This is why we need a General Election to secure our Government’s negotiating position, and guarantee strong and stable leadership to secure Britain's future.
I believe that both our country and our constituency have benefited from Government by the Conservatives over the past seven years. There is always more to do, and I look forward to the opportunity to build on the progress we have made if I am I re-elected on June 8th.
