Local MP, Mark Pawsey, is calling for organisations in Rugby to take part in UK Parliament Week, an annual programme of events to connect people with UK Parliament.
Taking place this week, UK Parliament Week will see schools, museums, charities and businesses around the country join in a week long programme of activities and events which explore what the UK Parliament means to them and their community.
Parliament Week is now in its fifth year and brings together both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, alongside other organisations based in the Palace of Westminster to promote the work of Parliament and encourage political engagement.
Mark said:
“UK Parliament Week is a great opportunity for organisations here in Rugby to engage their members in this national programme. There are many ways you can get involved – put on an event such as a debate, exhibition, or online event or visit the UK Parliament Week website for more ideas.”
Mark continued:
“Parliament organises a great many outreach programmes, including tours and visits as well as working closely with schools around the country to inform them of the work that Parliament does. I am particularly pleased that last year, nearly 200 pupils from Rugby visited Parliament and I hope that more schools, alongside other community organisations, might enjoy a visit in the future.”
Mark concluded:
“Getting more people engaged in politics, particularly young people, is a key part of Parliament’s role. If anyone from Rugby wishes to learn more about the work of Parliament, I would encourage them to get involved in UK Parliament week.”
