MP Mark Pawsey joined Cllr Yousef Dahmash at the Rugby Library last Saturday to present medals and certificates to local children who participated in this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.
The annual event encourages children to read 6 books over the summer holiday and to come into the library to take part in activities and talk about what they have been reading.
The 2016 Summer Reading Challenge was Roald Dahl themed with 234 Rugby children taking part.
An awards ceremony was held at the library on Saturday 10th September where Mark and Yousef presented medals and certificates to the children.
Speaking after the awards ceremony Mark said:
“It was wonderful to see so many children having completed the Summer Reading Challenge and to join them, and their families, in celebrating their achievements.
Mark continued:
“The children’s enthusiasm for reading was clear for all to see and many of them told me just how much they had enjoyed the challenge. The team at the library have done such a wonderful job in helping, and encouraging, the children throughout the summer and I hope to be able to join them again next year.”
Cllr Yousef Dahmash was equally impressed when speaking after the ceremony:
"I would like to thank the fantastic team at the Rugby library and the 'Reading Buddies' for helping the children throughout the summer and, of course, the many parents who encouraged their children to take the Summer Reading Challenge. It was incredible to see such a huge number of local children taking part and I hope even more will do so next year."
