Rugby MP says excellent coaching has a key role to play in boosting sporting participation in the UK – a key legacy aim of the 2012 Olympics
Rugby MP Mark Pawsey attended a reception in Westminster hosted by sports coach UK – the United Kingdom’s central agency for coaching – where he met inspirational coaches and heard from England Women’s National Football and Team GB Coach Hope Powell.
Speaking after the reception Mark said:
“I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet award-winning coaches and talk to them about the importance of excellent coaching. I particularly enjoyed hearing from Hope Powell, the ex player and now coach of the successful England Women’s Football Team. I think it is vital that we promote sport, especially in this Olympic year, so that everyone can stay healthy and realise their talent”.
Mark continued:
"Sports coach UK's Coach Inspire 2014 is an excellent programme that is looking to the future and the development of coaches that can help boost home country medal prospects at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and beyond. It is also important that this initiative is supported by UK Sport and the home country sports councils - it's a great example of joined-up working."
