Local MP Mark Pawsey has visited Rugby High School to see the start of work on their new sports hall.
The new sports hall is being developed in conjunction with Built OffSite, who specialise in the construction of educational facilities, and has been made possible thanks to funding through the 2015/16 Common Investment Fund scheme.
The new, modern facilities will provide a Sport England compliant 4 Court Sports Hall and are scheduled for completion at the end of January 2017.
Mark commented:
“I have raised the need for better sporting facilities at Rugby High School in Parliament on a number of occasions and I was delighted to learn that they had been successful in securing funding for a new sports hall. It is vitally important that all young people have access to good sporting facilities and that we do all that we can to encourage more young women to participate in sport.”
Mark continued:
“Both here in Rugby, and across the country, we have seen some inspirational sporting achievements in recent years. I hope that the new facilities at Rugby High School help to nurture the next generation of sports stars right here in Rugby.”
Charlotte Marten, head teacher at Rugby High School added:
“We are delighted with this new Sports Hall and expect it to be ready early next year. It will be great to see both our students and the community benefiting from these modern facilities. We have been working with Built OffSite for over 12 months carefully planning this project. We are delighted the Department for Education has accepted the argument that girls in Rugby High deserve modern sports facilities to help them develop active and healthy lives. We would also like to thank Mr Pawsey MP for his support throughout.”
