Johanne Thomas of developer Urban & Civic with local MP Mark Pawsey at the Rugby Radio Station site
The developers of RadioStation Rugby welcomed local MP Mark Pawsey on Wednesday 11th November to check out progress on the town’s largest strategic housing site.
Set to deliver some 6200 new homes over the next 15-20 years, RadioStation Rugby, known locally as the old mast site, received outline planning consent in May 2014 and in addition to housing will delivery three primary schools, one secondary school, an 8 GP health centre and extensive green spaces, walkways, cycleways and a new link road connecting the site to the town.
Mark, who has long recognised the need for development at the former Mast Site, saw the fleet of large machines preparing the ground for new homes, which will start being built next year.
Ecological works and landscaping have already been delivered providing new habitats for the great crested newts within the first phase. Work is also underway to refurbish the Dolman Farm house and barn to transform that area into a new community hub with a courtyard visitor centre, community centre and café.
Mark said:
“There is a significant amount of work already happening on site and it’s good to see that works have already started to prepare the site for housing. This will provide much-needed accommodation for Rugby and support both our town centre and local hospital.”
Mark continued:
“It is important that the site becomes a key part of our town and the extra work around Dolman Farm is also an exciting prospect as it will link existing communities with the new development.”
The site is co-owned by Urban&Civic and Aviva Investors.
Johanne Thomas from Urban&Civic accompanied Mark during his visit and said;
“There was so much to tell Mark about what's been happening and what is coming forward over the next 6 months.
“In addition to work already on site, we will be signing up out first house builder before Christmas and announcing the name and marketing for the first phase of the site. Utilities and services will also begin to go in before Christmas and in January we will be starting the realignment and new junctions on the A428 Crick Road as well as the much needed footway and cycleway.”
