Local MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed the news that two new free schools have been approved in Rugby, helping to create more valuable school places and provide more choice for parents.
These new schools form part of the Government’s commitment to open 500 new free schools over the next five years, creating 270,000 new school places across the country. The first 18 projects of this parliament have been given the green light – creating more than 9,000 school places across the country and giving more families the choice of an excellent education for their children than ever before.
Mark said:
“Part of the Government’s approach over the last five years has been to ensure that every child gets the best possible start in life, and that begins with a first class education. Here in Rugby, we have excellent schools and I am sure that the new Free Schools will complement them and give parents more, high quality, choices.”
Mark continued:
“These two new Free Schools, Rugby Free Secondary and MacIntyre Special Free School, will join Rugby Free Primary in delivering the additional school places that Rugby needs. Rugby Free Secondary is due to open in September 2016 whilst the MacIntyre Special Free School will open in 2017.”
Mark concluded:
“These schools, which are being championed by parents and teachers across the country, will build on the reforms that the coalition Government made during the last Parliament. I am proud to see that Rugby is taking this opportunity to ensure that we meet the demand for high quality school places through the Free Schools programme.”
