He also asked the Prime Minister to join him in his hope that the Webb Ellis trophy will be making its way back home at the end of the tournament.
Prime Minister David Cameron replied:
“I will do everything I can to support our rugby team. I very much hope the trophy will be coming home to one of the nations of the United Kingdom.
But added:
“When I met the Prime Minister of New Zealand, he kindly gave me an All Blacks shirt, but his advice was, “Whatever you do, don’t be seen wearing this”, and I think I will take that advice”
Speaking after the debate Mark said:
“Rugby is very proud that the game it has given it’s name to now has such a massive following and I am delighted that the Prime Minister has stated on record his support for the Home Nations at the Rugby World Cup later this year. I really hope that the country gets behind the teams, and that one of them brings the Webb Ellis trophy back home”.
