Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed changes introduced by Conservatives in Government that gives people a much greater say over wind farms in their communities. The move shifts the balance of power to local communities in deciding whether to agree to onshore wind proposals.
As part of the new policy, if communities do allow wind farms to be built in their local area, households will also get a generous reduction in their energy bills that could help them save up to £400 a year.
Welcoming the announcement, Mark said:
“Since 2010 this Government has proved it is committed to shifting power away from bureaucrats in London to local people. I am glad I had the opportunity to welcome this further shift of power to local communities in Parliament last week”.
Mark continued:
“I have always maintained that when proposals for wind farm developments come forward there should be greater account taken of the wishes of local residents. I am pleased that their voice is that bit stronger after this announcement. I also welcome the increase in benefits that communities can get if they do agree to wind farms in their area. Saving £400 a year on energy bills will be a real help to many people who do not mind development going ahead”.
Mark concluded:
“It is the Conservative party in Government that are giving local people a real say in the development that affects them and I remain proud of the power shift away from central Government that we have seen in the past three years”.
