With construction of Rugby’s full fibre network well underway, CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full fibre platform, welcomed local Mark Pawsey MP to find out more about how this will benefit Rugby residents.
During the visit Mark met Neal Wright, Area Manager for Rugby & Aodha O'Carroll, Public Affairs Officer at CityFibre, who introduced Mr Pawsey to the £17 million investment in full fibre network technology around Rugby. He was also shown how the build process is underway in Hillmorton, where Bromwich Road is currently undergoing work to bring fibre to local properties.
Full fibre networks, unlike the majority of the digital infrastructure accessible to households today, use 100% fibre optic to carry data at light speed all the way from the home to the point of connection. This gives users speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps for upload and download, near limitless bandwidth and reliable connectivity. Locally, the rollout is being completed by CityFibre’s build partner, Callan Connect and they are working closely with Rugby Borough to minimise any disruption as the upgrades are rolled out.
In Rugby, services are currently available from Vodafone, Giganet, TalkTalk and many more, with other providers expected to join the network soon. People interested in upgrading their home’s digital connection to full fibre can find out more about the build, pre-register their interest and ensure they are updated on service availability at www.cityfibre.com/PR
Commenting on the progress of CityFibre’s £17m project, Mark Pawsey, MP for Rugby, said:
“I was very pleased to see for myself the progress being made on the delivery of CityFibre’s project in Rugby, and to learn about both the work which goes into delivering infrastructure of this scale and the ways in which the switch to fibre connectivity will benefit residents and businesses. Broadband and high quality, reliable internet connectivity is increasingly a vital part of our infrastructure, so this upgrade will ensure that our town has the tools it needs for the homes and businesses of the future. The added investment is enabling customers to have a choice of broadband and encouraging competition in this important market.”
Neal Wright, Area Manager for Rugby at CityFibre, added:
“We’re extremely proud of our roll out in Rugby, and it has been a pleasure to show Mr Pawsey the progress so far in bringing full fibre connectivity to the town. It’s brilliant to have his support, along with the support of the local community, as we work to make Rugby one of the best-connected towns in the world. Thousands of homes are already able to connect to the network and we look forward to bringing this step change in connectivity to the wider area as soon as possible.”
