Rugby MP Mark Pawsey once again showed his support for UK manufacturing by attending a series of events designed to showcase the contribution that high value manufacturing can make to the UK’s growth.
The University of Sheffield, Boeing and Rolls-Royce hosted a series of events for MPs in Westminster which included an exhibition on high value manufacturing, a tour of the University of Sheffield’s mobile advanced manufacturing transporter (Mantra), a reception at No10 and a seminar in the House of Commons.
A Rolls-Royce fan-set, that draws air into the engine and produces 80% of the engine’s thrust, stood in front of the Houses of Parliament as a visible reminder of the importance of UK manufacturing with the fan blades made in Lancashire, assembled in Derby and sold on Rolls-Royce engines globally.
The fan-set is from a Trent 900 engine, which powers the Airbus A380. It is the largest Rolls-Royce fan blade in service at 116 inch diameter. The application of this technology can be seen on revolutionary new aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which made its first commercial flight powered by Rolls-Royce engines, during the exhibition period.

“I am proud that the government is making every effort to rebalance the UK economy and create new high-value private sector jobs to stimulate economic growth and stability. We are a manufacturing nation and I am very supportive of the work being done by the University of Sheffield, Boeing and Rolls-Royce to reignite our manufacturing base in the UK. It was a real pleasure to see their showcase at Westminster.”
