Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey has praised the hard work of local volunteers as part of Volunteers’ Week.
Volunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the contribution and dedication of millions of volunteers who give up their time in the service of others. Events are taking place across the UK from 1st–12th June to mark Volunteers’ Week, which this year is running for an extra five days to coincide with the Queen’s Patron’s Lunch on the 12th June.
Last year over 750 events were organised for Volunteers’ Week, ranging from volunteer recruitment drives, to street parties, barbecues and award ceremonies. In addition to these celebrations, individual volunteers are being encouraged to take to social media to share their volunteering experiences and motivations using the hashtag #ivolunteer.
Mark said:
“Since becoming Rugby’s MP in 2010 I have had the pleasure of meeting with people from so many fantastic local volunteer organisations. Volunteers week is a great opportunity for the local community to thank those people for all that they do.”
Mark continued:
“As many Rugby residents will know volunteer organisations like the Friends of St Cross, which supports our local hospital, offer a great community spirit and really make a difference all year round. I have seen first-hand how important our local volunteers are and it is only right that we recognise their tireless work.”
Mark concluded:
“I hope that alongside offering our recognition and thanks for their hard work, Volunteers’ Week 2016 will encourage more people to come forward and get involved in their local community.”
