Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey joined dozens of his Parliamentary colleagues last week to support the Royal British Legion and the Industry and Parliament Trust’s Poppy Ride last week.
The charity ride takes place in Parliament’s Portcullis House with MPs invited to cycle as far as they can in 5 minutes. Although the primary purpose of the ride is to raise awareness for the Poppy Appeal 2022, a friendly spirit of competition is encouraged with the Royal British Legion keeping a leader board of MPs distances. Mark cycled 2.33km in his five minutes.
For the 2022 Poppy Appeal In 2022, the Royal British Legion are specifically commemorating both military and civilian service to the nation. This is particularly profound following the coronavirus pandemic, when members of the military served side-by-side with civilians to help administer support to the community and deliver the vaccine rollout.
Speaking after the cycle ride, Mark commented:
“Every year the Poppy Appeal raises millions of pounds to help support our veterans – people who have put their lives on the line in defence of our country and our freedoms. More than that, every year we come together on Remembrance Sunday to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in conflicts around the world, both historic and tragically in ongoing conflicts today.”
Mark continued:
“I know that residents in Rugby and Bulkington always show great support for the Poppy Appeal and come together on Remembrance Sunday both in the town centre, and in many of the communities throughout the constituency. It is really important that, over a century after the formation of the Royal British Legion, we continue to support their work and that is why I was pleased to take part in the Poppy Ride at Parliament.”
