Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey visited the Rugby 1st Brownsover Brownies this week as part of the annual UK Parliament Week celebrations, where he told them about his role as Rugby’s MP and answered some of their questions.
The Rugby 1st Brownsover Brownies are working on their Parliament Badge, which is one of the activities provided for the UK Parliament Week. Although the Week formally takes place in November, Mark was keen to go and meet the Brownies ahead of the UK Parliament Week so that he could inform their work on the Parliament Badge.
UK Parliament Week this year is being held between 6th and 12th November and helps to spread the word about what Parliament is, what it does, and how people can get involved. In 2022 over 1.1 million people were involved, from youth groups to community organisations. A number of organisations in Rugby have already signed up and you can still do so online at: https://www.ukparliamentweek.org/en/sign-up/
Speaking after meeting with the Rugby 1st Brownsover Brownies, Mark commented:
“UK Parliament Week is a really important and fun way to engage with the work of Westminster and what happens at what is one of the oldest representative parliaments in the world. I was really delighted to join Rugby 1st Brownsover Brownies so I could talk to them about what life as an MP is like, how and why laws are made and of course answer their questions which were very interesting and insightful.”
Mark continued:
“As Rugby and Bulkington’s MP it’s always a great privilege to be able to talk to the next generation about the importance of our democracy and the important work of MPs and other representatives. It’s also really important to hear from them about their concerns and interests so that those views can be represented. I was really impressed with how engaged Rugby 1st Brownsover Brownies were with the UK Parliament Week and the work they are doing for their Parliament Badge. I’d encourage any other groups in Rugby to take part in UK Parliament Week and get involved.”
Amy Smith of the 1st Brownsover Brownies added:
“I want to say a massive thank you to Mark Pawsey for attending our meeting and providing the girls with such a fabulous and informative evening. They absolutely loved hearing about his duties, his pets and his favourite colour!”
