Local MP Mark Pawsey joined Rugby Mayor Cllr Sally Bragg to open three new school buildings last Friday. Mark and Cllr Bragg officially opened the new 6th Form Centre at Ashlawn School before heading to Paddox Primary to open the school’s new extension and outdoor learning space.
The new 6th Form Centre at Ashlawn School comprises of a large learning research centre, a teaching school training classroom, 8 new classrooms and IT suites.
Paddox Primary has been over-subscribed for a number of years and has been in need of additional learning space. Work commenced on the new extension in February of 2015 and was completed 6 weeks ahead of schedule in December of the same year.
The school also made a successful bid to the Aviva Community Fund last year, through the Friends of Paddox School with support from Mark and parents at the school, for funding for an outside learning space for a Forest School site. Mark and Cllr Bragg were also able to open the new outdoor learning space on their visit to the school last week.
Mark commented:
“Rugby has many excellent schools and I was delighted to join the Mayor to open the new buildings at two of those schools, Ashlawn School and Paddox Primary.”
Mark continued:
“The new 6th Form Centre will be a great asset for Ashlawn School at a time when the school is looking to increase its 6th Form intake to cater for growing demand within the town. Paddox Primary is an outstanding school and I have been fortunate enough to visit the school, and speak with Head teacher Jane Le Poidevin on a number of occasions in recent years, and see for myself how the school is developing. Due to its success the demand for places at Paddox Primary has increased and I know that the new extension will enable to school to better meet the demand for quality primary education from local families.”
