Our party, along with others, has spent some time looking at the results of the recent local and European elections here in Rugby which provides a great deal of encouragement for the Conservatives.
We believe that by the time the General Election comes around in May 2015 voters here will look at the party’s record in Government, both nationally and here in Rugby. Locally Conservatives have kept Council Tax low whilst protecting services. We have also invested in the town providing local residents with a new leisure centre and crematorium and also brought forward a £1m scheme to help people onto the housing ladder.
Nationally Conservatives have brought forward initiatives which have created economic growth, rebuilt the manufacturing sector, kept crime at record lows and reduced unemployment.
However we recognise that many people have found the last few years difficult as the Government took steps to get to grips with Labour’s legacy of debt and deficit. The country has now turned a corner. There is more to do but we are on the right track and it is clear that the Conservative party is the only party capable of delivering the sustained recovery our country needs.
I am sure that this record will be at the forefront of people’s minds when they come to cast their votes next May.
