“I very much welcome the announcement made by the Government this week that Coventry and Warwickshire has been successful in its City Deal bid. Having met with representatives from the bid only last week, I feel sure that this Deal will provide growth in our area and rebalance our economy in favour of manufacturing.
Last Thursday I was very glad to have the opportunity to speak in a debate in the House of Commons on the Coventry and Warwickshire City Deal. In the debate I was very pleased to be able to draw attention to the fact that the Coventry and Warwickshire Deal includes provisions to train thousands of young people in our area and provide the skills that will enable manufacturing businesses to thrive. I visit businesses here in Rugby on a regular basis and from discussions with their owners I know that this is a key issue they will be pleased to see being dealt with.
City Deal’s are part of this Government’s localism agenda which takes power away from Central Government in Whitehall and giving it to areas themselves. Through this process, money and resources are being allocated to the people who know how to best use it effectively to create the growth our area needs.”
