Mark joins hundreds of residents in welcoming the torch to Rugby
On Monday, Rugby MP Mark Pawsey joined with Rugby residents in welcoming the Olympic Torch to the area. Mark was able to hold a torch as he met with one of the runners, Tom Brennan - an employee of Rugby-based company Airwave at their offices in Rugby.
Speaking about the event, Mark said:
“Rugby has a close relationship with the Olympic Games with the designer of the Modern Olympics having been inspired by Dr Arnold in his time as Headmaster at Rugby School”.
Mark continued:
“It is great to see that Olympic fever has been spreading gradually throughout the country and we here in Rugby did the Olympics proud with a fantastic level of support throughout the area”.
Mark concluded:
“Witnessing the Olympic Torch running through our streets is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am very glad so many of us took the opportunity to play our part in history”.
