Investigation comes after Mark and other MPs put pressure on the Office of Fair Trading for an investigation into petrol prices
Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed the decision by the Office of Fair Trading to investigate the price of petrol. The news that the OFT are looking into the pricing comes a matter of weeks after Mark joined with more than 60 other MPs in signing a Commons motion calling on the Prime Minister to strengthen the regulation of the oil market.
On hearing the news, Mark said:
“I am delighted that the Office of Fair Trading has now decided to investigate the high petrol prices. Many of my constituents have contacted me recently expressing their concern about the high cost of fuel in the UK and this is a step in the right direction”.
Mark continued:
“I am glad the pressure I and my colleagues as MPs have put on the Government and the Office of Fair Trading has resulted in this investigation and I hope with this news people in Rugby will benefit from a balanced and fair approach by oil companies”.
Mark concluded:
“Petrol in Rugby is around 3p per litre more expensive than some of our surrounding areas and we need to ensure hard working families here in Rugby are not being unfairly charged for petrol”.
