Rugby MP responds to London Midland announcement
Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed the announcement by the Department for Transport of 40 new carriages for the London Midland network in 2013. This will significantly increase capacity, and also reduce journey times as the newer trains will have a higher maximum speed.
Current London Midland services travel at a maximum speed of 100 mph, but the train operator will modify some of their existing fleet to run at 110 mph – the maximum speed of the new-build trains - creating faster peak and off-peak services into London Euston.

“Today’s announcement is excellent news for commuters and rail users here in Rugby and further improves our rail services. This investment by the Government means that, from December this year, journey times from Rugby to Euston on London Midland trains are now predicted to be 1 hour and 9 minutes, reducing travel time by 15 minutes. It is even better if you are travelling back to Rugby as rail times are predicted to be 56 minutes, down from 1 hour and 18 minutes.”
