On Tuesday 12th March, Rugby MP Mark Pawsey and other MPs welcomed ex-Fusiliers Paul Ormisher and Tony O’Donovan to the gates of Number 10 Downing Street, as part of an Honour Guard which Fusilier Associations are providing. Ex-Fusiliers, wearing the distinctive Regimental beret and hackle, will be on station during Tuesday Cabinet meetings.
The Honour Guard forms part of the continuing campaign to save the 2nd Batallion, The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (2RRF), which is due to be disbanded in line with the Government’s planned Army cuts.
Speaking on the event, Mark said:
“I was delighted to meet with the ex-Fusiliers today in Westminster. It is my sincere hope that having guards stationed on the gates of 10 Downing Street will continue the momentum in our campaign to stop the disbandment of this Regiment”
Mark concluded:
“There are many connections between Rugby and the Regiment and I am glad I was able to represent Rugby in showing our support for the Fusiliers. I, along with colleagues, will continue applying pressure on the Government on behalf of our local army Regiment”.
