Rugby & Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey recently attended the Nuneaton Old Edwardian’s ground at Weddington Road where the club accepted sponsorship of their second XV shirts from local Bulkington businessman Peter Gilbert, owner of the Weaver’s Arms pub. Mark was joined by Marcus Jones MP, Member of Parliament for Nuneaton, and members of the second XV squad who were playing that day against local rivals Leamington.
Mark said:
“In this year of the Rugby World Cup, I think it’s fantastic to see our local clubs and small teams continuing to play and grow. As a former rugby player, I was delighted to be appointed as the Parliamentary Ambassador to the World Cup and I think it will be a great opportunity for all those in our local area who love the game.”
John Burdett Hon Secretary and Treasurer Nuneaton Old Edwardians RFC said:
"Nuneaton Old Edwardians have been very pleased to accept sponsorship for the second XV shirts this season from Mr Peter Gilbert of the Weavers Arms, Bulkington. Peter, along with local MP Marcus Jones and Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey were welcomed today at Weddington Road before the XV fixture v Leamington."
Marcus Jones, MP for Nuneaton commented:
“The old Ed’s are one of the excellent rugby clubs that we have in Nuneaton and it’s always a pleasure to give them my support. Club’s like the Ed’s would not be the assets to the community they are without local sponsorship and I congratulate Peter on the kind support that he has given to the club.”
Mark concluded:
“The game of Rugby is one with a unique connection to our local area and as such I’m always very pleased to see local teams playing, and hopeful winning! With the 6 Nations tournament already showing the game at its best and the Rugby World Cup being hosted here in Britain later this year, it’s a great opportunity to grow and expand the game and it’s good to see local people like Peter Gilbert supporting their local teams.”
