On Wednesday 28th November, Mark Pawsey MP showed New Zealand Rugby Legend Sir Colin Meads around Parliament before speaking with him at a well attended Dinner in Westminster. Mark took the opportunity to speak to Sir Colin about the efforts Rugby and surrounding areas are making to attract tourists for the Rugby World Cup in 2015.
Speaking afterwards, Mark said:
“It was a great honour to show Sir Colin Meads, who many believe to be the greatest New Zealand Rugby player of all time, around Parliament”.
Mark continued:
“Sir Colin played for the All Blacks from 1957 until 1971 and I remember in 1971, as a schoolboy, going to Welford Road to see Sir Colin play in a ‘Rest of the World’ team to mark the centenary of the RFU”.
Mark concluded:
“It was fantastic then, 42 years later, to be able to show Sir Colin around Parliament whilst representing the birthplace of the game as its MP. I was able to speak to him about the town of Rugby and he was very interested to hear the steps our area is taking to welcome the next Rugby World Cup in 2015”.
