Mark Pawsey, MP for Rugby and Bulkington, joined volunteers at the Good Shepherd Church in Newton to help create Morsbags – reusable bags made from waste fabric material. The fabric can come from old curtains, sheets or pillow cases and a Morsbag can be used up to 500 times.
Morsbags is an international campaign which has hundreds of community groups across the UK who meet to make these bags. The group in Newton is called Notnew bags and was started by local resident Jane Morgan.
Mark said:
“Making old fabrics into reusable bags is a great initiative, as most of these materials would otherwise go into landfill. The sense of the community working together and helping each other was also fantastic.”
Mark continued:
“The group there were very willing to help people making new bags and I know they will be very welcoming to others who wish to join them in making a Morsbag.”
Mark concluded:
“As Rugby’s local MP I often get the chance to see much of the voluntary work done by residents and the enthusiasm and interest shown was great. Making a Morsbag is a good opportunity to meet new people and I would encourage anyone interested to take part.”
