Bilton School pupils try Paralympic Sport
After attending a reception in the House of Commons recently, Mark Pawsey MP was presented with a Paralympics Sport kit to donate to a school in his Constituency.
The kit was donated by Sainsburys to celebrate the fact that they are the official supermarket partner of the Paralympic Games, with the aim of trying to get a million children to try a Paralympic Sport ahead of the 2012 Games.
Out of fairness, Mark put all of the Rugby Schools’ names into a hat. Bilton School was chosen and Mark went along there last week to present the kit to a class of Year 9 students.
The visit to the school was during National School Sport Week, and pupils took part in a game of ‘Blind Football’ and listened to a short inspirational talk from Mark on the importance of sport and participation in it.
Mark said:
“I was delighted to go along to Bilton School and talk to the Year 9 pupils who will work on GCSE subjects next year.”
Mark added:
“By taking part in a game of Blind Football, I hope that the students were able to appreciate Paralympic sports, the part that they will play in the 2012 Games, and the way that sport can have a positive impact on the lives of those with disabilities.”
Mark continued:
“I talked with the students about the importance of sport in people’s lives in general, including my own life, and in learning skills that they might transfer to other areas of their lives. ”
