Rugby MP celebrates the town of Rugby being the birthplace of both Rugby Union and Rugby League
On Wednesday, 31st October Rugby MP Mark Pawsey welcomed both the Rugby League World Cup trophy and the Aviva Rugby Union Premiership trophy to Parliament.
Mark said:
“Rugby has the fantastic privilege of being the home of not one international sport but two, Rugby Union and Rugby League, and I was delighted to be able to keep the link up in welcoming both of the trophies to Westminster.”
Mark continued:
“The Aviva Premiership Trophy was in Westminster because I and other MPs invited a group of schoolchildren on a new Premiership-backed ‘Hitz’ programme into Parliament. ‘Hitz’ targets young people at risk of anti-social behaviour and exclusion from school and introduces them to rugby to help build their confidence and respect. It was obvious to me that the scheme was really helping them”.
Mark concluded:
“We in Rugby have a fantastic opportunity to promote ourselves within the UK and the world as the home of these fantastic sports and I remain committed to doing all I can to see Rugby get the recognition we deserve”
