Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed the Government’s decision to grant the Post Office a seven year contract extension that will allow UK motorists to buy vehicle tax discs at their local branches.
The £450m contract, with the DVLA, will also allow Post Office Ltd to run applications for driving licences and changes to licence photo cards. The new contract arrangements will save the taxpayer £13-£15m per year and will come into effect on 1st April 2013.
Mark said:
"I am delighted that the Post Office has won this important contract to provide services on behalf of the DVLA.”
Mark continued:
“I know how much the people of Rugby value their local Post Office branches and how important they are for so many people. I have received hundreds of postcards from Constituents on this matter and am fully aware of the strength of feeling. This agreement will further strengthen the role of Post Offices within our local communities.
Mark concluded:
"This news is a strong endorsement of the Post Office's ability to deliver essential services and of the Government’s commitment to ease the burden on the taxpayer without reducing local services.”
