Award ceremony is held at Rugby College
Vocational Qualification (VQ) Day this year is on Wednesday 20th June, but a joint event arranged by Rugby Borough Council and Warwickshire College last Friday meant that it was celebrated early in Rugby.
Mark Pawsey MP was invited along to Warwickshire College’s Rugby Centre for the presentation of the ‘Rugby Apprentice of the Year’ award, together with representatives from Rugby Borough Council, Warwickshire College, local businesses, students and tutors.
This is the first time that the award has been presented, which consists of an engraved trophy and a cheque for £100. All of those shortlisted were also presented with an award and a certificate.
Mark said:
‘I was delighted to attend the launch of this event brought forward by Warwickshire College and Rugby Borough Council, and hope that the award can be offered on an annual basis.’
Mark continued:
‘In recognition of the apprentice who has shown the most potential over the previous academic year, the award for the Apprentice of the Year is an ideal acknowledgement of excellence. I cannot emphasise how important apprenticeships are to the future of business and the economy, and I hope that the award will raise the profile of apprenticeships and vocational qualifications locally.’
Mark concluded:
‘I was thrilled to be able to meet all of the nominees and those shortlisted for the award. I was able to offer my congratulations to Apprentice of the Year, Lee Bradley and wish him all the best for his future career.’
Mark added:
“I was also pleased to be able to secure recognition for the award from the Minister of State for Further Education, Skills & Lifelong Learning in the House of Commons on Monday, when he spoke of the exceptional work by the College.”
