Rugby MP joins Government campaign to highlight steps to take to stop kitchen fires before they start
Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has joined a campaign developed by the Department of Communities and Local Government and ‘Beko’, the UK’s largest home appliance brand, to highlight five simple steps people can take to improve safety in their kitchens.
Mark said:
“On the 26th September I had the privilege of spending a day with fire service personnel of the Warwickshire Fire Service and I found it a very helpful and informative way of seeing the challenges faced by the professionals in the fire service. It was also an opportunity for me to see the ways local residents can prevent fires happening in their homes”.
Mark continued:
“I am delighted to be able to support this new campaign which highlights the five checks you can make in your kitchen to stay safe. The five suggested checks are: have you turned the cooker off; is your fridge-freezer defrosted at least once a year; is your oven clean; are your plug sockets safe; is your wiring up to date”.
Mark concluded:
“Over half of house fires begin in the kitchen and the sad fact is that people can prevent them. I urge residents of Rugby to take 10 minutes to do the 5 simple checks. By stopping a fire before it starts, you’re already a hero”.
