Rugby’s MP has called on Warwickshire County Council and Rugby Borough Council to take steps to resolve the traffic issues on Technology Drive, Junction One retail park and Elliott’s Field retail park.
Mark Pawsey MP has previously met with residents on Technology Drive after concerns were raised regarding parking near Rugby station. This has created a dangerous situation for both residents in the area and those attending the Warwickshire College’s Rugby site and has led to accidents on this road.
Mark said:
“We have recently seen Rugby's retail offer improved with the re-opening of the re-developed Elliott's Field Retail Park, which I hope will see more people from the surrounding area come to Rugby. The improved shopping facilities have a lot of potential benefit for the town and it’s vital we see that fully realised.”
Mark continued:
“I have met with residents at Technology Drive to see for myself the dangers created by the poor parking there and this is now impacting on the traffic at Junction One. I welcome that Warwickshire County Council will be holding a consultation to implement double yellow lines on Technology Drive, which should help to alleviate the hazardous parking currently taking place.”
Mark concluded:
“However, recently we have seen the new Elliot's Field Retail Park open in addition to further shopping facilities on Technology Drive itself and it is clear that action should be taken regarding the traffic flow in these areas, due to the build-up of congestion. It is vital for action to be taken to address these issues and to ensure local residents can get the full benefit of Rugby’s expanding retail offer.”
