Rugby MP asks Health Minister to consider the matter of uniforms worn by home carers
On Tuesday 23rd October, Rugby MP Mark Pawsey spoke in the House of Commons during questions to the Secretary of State for Health. Mark asked the Health Minister, Norman Lamb MP, to look into the issue of uniforms worn by home carer staff.
Mark said:
“The issue of uniforms worn by care workers was brought to my attention by a constituent who pointed out quite rightly that care workers and care assistants are free to wear any uniform they like with no restrictions.”
Mark continued:
“This poses a danger to elderly people who are being cared for, as they are often unable to distinguish between who is a qualified carer and who is from an agency.”
Mark concluded:
“I was glad that the Minister agreed with me that it is absolutely essential that users of services know exactly who the staff are who are caring for them. The Minister said he would be happy to discuss this issue further and I look forward to meeting with him in the near future.”
