Local MP Mark Pawsey visited Hillmorton Primary School last week to speak to pupils about the “Send My Friend to School 2015” project. The project highlights the importance of education to all children around the world. During the visit Mark also spoke about Project Umubano, a Conservative Party Social Action Project helping survivors of the Rwandan Genocide which he has been involved with for a number of years.
Mark said:
“I was very pleased to have the opportunity to go and talk to pupils at Hillmorton Primary School about the ‘Send My Friend to School 2015’ project. The importance of a good education is universal, whether it is here in Rugby or in Kigali; the capital of Rwanda. Over the last 6 years, I have had the opportunity to travel to Rwanda as part of Project Umubano and I have seen how much good can be achieved through proper education.”
Mark continued:
“Whilst in Rwanda I quickly became aware of how passionate the people there are about football and the level of support for English teams. That is why I started my campaign to collect old football shirts after my fist visit in 2009. The campaign has been running ever since and the generosity shown by the people of Rugby and Bulkington every year is a constant source of pride. I hope to continue to be able to do this and I am very pleased to have already received some donations from Rugby residents following the end of this year’s season.”
Mark was also impressed by interest shown in politics by the Hillmorton Primary School pupils adding:
“I was delighted to see school children engaging in politics from such an early age. The visit was a great opportunity to be able to discuss issues which they care about and I also left with a number of letters for the Prime Minister which the pupils had written. I will be sending them on and letting him know of the work the children of Hillmorton have been doing.”
