On Thursday 7th November, Rugby MP Mark Pawsey stood up in the House of Commons to raise awareness of a new report by the Waste and Resources Action Programme on the amount of food people in the UK waste each and every day. Mark was speaking as Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Packaging.
After speaking in the House of Commons, Mark said:
“Having spent 25 years running a business in Rugby supplying packaging to the food industry, I was pleased to have the opportunity to raise the very important issue of food waste in Parliament”.
Mark commented:
“This recent report pays particular significance to the role that packaging has in keeping our food fresher for longer. Food waste has already been cut by 21% since 2007 but I was concerned to hear that the average UK household still throws away the equivalent of six meals every week”.
Mark concluded:
“The packaging that food comes in can play a vital role in ensuring we don’t have to throw away the food we buy. In order to do just that I encourage everyone to retain the packaging that food was bought in and re-seal it where possible”.
