Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey, has welcomed news that crime has fallen by more than a quarter (27 per cent) since 2010. This brings recorded crime to its lowest level on record, according to latest figures from the independent Office for National Statistics.
The Government has introduced a five point action plan to tackle crime. The government has taken action to free up the police to fight crime by cutting red tape, scrapping unnecessary targets, ensuring that criminals get tough sentences to protect communities and tacking the root causes of crime to stop people from becoming criminals.
Mark said:
“The Conservatives have been working hard in government to ensure that crime remains low and we keep our communities safe. By introducing Police and Crime Commissioners, we have made local police forces more accountable to the people they serve.”
Mark continued:
“The steps we have taken are working. The independent Crime Survey of England and Wales shows that crime is continuing to fall under this Government, reaching a record low. Here in the West Midlands, crime recorded by the police has fallen by 19%.”
Mark concluded:
“Here in Rugby, police initiatives such as the ‘Alcohol Watch’ campaign have helped tackle anti-social behaviour and its success has been recognised by the Home Secretary. The figures released by the ONS show that the plan is working. The Conservatives have a strong record on crime and by continuing to grow the economy, more people across the country can enjoy a better, brighter future."
