Local MP Mark Pawsey has visited the Elliott’s Field retail park to see first-hand the progress being made on redevelopment.
The £35m redevelopment is well underway and works are on course to be completed on schedule for Christmas this year. Debenhams, Clarks and Marks & Spencer are among the retailers moving on to the site.
Mark said:
“I enjoyed visiting the Elliott’s Field to see how work is progressing on the redeveloped site. I think it is positive news for Rugby that after so many years spent encouraging a department store to come to our town this ambition will finally be realised when Debenhams opens its doors this winter.”
Mark continued:
“I appreciate that many people still have concerns about the effect this redevelopment will have on the future of our town centre. I believe that the substantial levels of new housing that Rugby will be providing over coming years will provide the sufficient demand from residents to allow us to sustain both an excellent retail park and vibrant town centre offer.”
Mark concluded:
“Redeveloping Elliott’s Field does mean that we have to do more to ensure that our town centre retailers are supported and I am pleased that Rugby Borough Council and Rugby First along with central Government have implemented new measures to encourage people to come into our town centre. By changing the laws regulating on-street parking to make them fairer for shoppers and by providing good quality shops, both multiple retailers and independents, as well as an attractive place for people to meet up I am confident that our town centre will thrive.”
