Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey joined World Animal Protection at the Houses of Parliament this week to support one of the world’s leading police departments, the National Wildlife Crime Unit and to raise the work of students at Ashlawn School, who want the UK to have an Endangered Species Day.
The National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU) is dedicated to supporting wildlife crime investigations and is fundamental to providing and analysing national wildlife crime intelligence across the UK. In the UK our native wildlife is targeted for profit and entertainment, with animals being harmed and persecuted in devastating ways. The NWCU is responsible for investigating and prosecuting a large number of wildlife crime cases across the country.
After the event, Mark commented:
“I recently met with Ashlawn students to discuss their ideas for an Endangered Species Day, and I was very impressed with the research they had done. I was happy to raise these issues, alongside the wider importance of protecting the UK’s wildlife.”
Mark continued:
“The work done by the National Wildlife Crime Unit is important and I am very happy to support it. I know that protecting our natural environment is of great importance for local residents and I am always interested to learn of the great variety of wildlife projects that take place in the constituency.”
Mark concluded:
“The Government has worked closely with our international partners as well as agencies in the UK to ensure that we protect our natural environment both here in Rugby and Bulkington and across the world. We are leading the way by tackling illegal activities such as poaching, smuggling and indiscriminate cruelty to wild animals.”
