Mark is pleased to see that shirts are being put to good use
As previously reported, Mark has seen the local children’s delight at ‘Western’ football shirts on his visits to Rwanda. Mark’s well-publicised project to collect unwanted football shirts and send them to Rwanda has been a great success.
On his visit earlier this year, Mark was able to hand over even more shirts donated by the generous people of Rugby, and to witness them being worn by the children.
Mark said:
“Rwanda is one of the poorest countries in the world and the children are thrilled by possessions that we often take for granted.”
Mark added:
"The big English clubs are all well known and previous donations were really appreciated by both youngster and adults. However, the Rwandans are probably less aware of the Coventry City Team, so it was great to see the shirts I’ve been collecting locally being put to good use. It’s amazing that in the middle of Africa, there’s a whole team of children playing mostly in Coventry City shirts!”
Mark concluded:
“I’ve attached a photograph showing the Rwandan youngsters wearing the shirts kindly donated by Rugby school children. I’d like to take this opportunity to pass on my thanks to all of the schools, individuals and organisations who have donated towards my project, as photographs like this make it all worthwhile.”
