Mark Pawsey, Conservative Party Parliamentary candidate for Rugby and Bulkington, has welcomed a new manifesto commitment by the Conservatives to extend the Right to Buy scheme to enable housing association tenants to purchase their property.
In Rugby and Bulkington this would enable 2,340 families to buy their own home. The extension of the Right to Buy scheme will address the present unfairness that only tenants of council owned properties can buy their home. This means that across England 1.3 million families will have the opportunity to buy their housing association property and be able to achieve their dream of owning their own home.
The Conservatives will also ensure that homes which are sold will be replaced by new affordable housing. In addition, by requiring councils to sell their expansive council houses as they become vacant, £1 billion will be made available to bring derelict, brownfield land back into use for housing.
Mark said:
“Conservatives want more people who work hard and save to be able to enjoy the security of owning their own home. That is why we are committed to extending the Right to Buy scheme to help housing association tenants onto the property ladder. This will mean 2,340 families in Rugby and Bulkington will have the chance to buy their home.”
Mark continued:
“Right to Buy has already helped over two million families get on the housing ladder since it was first launched in 1980 and now many more people will have the same opportunity. Extending Right to Buy builds on the successful Help to Buy programme we introduced during the last Parliament, which has helped 226 families in Rugby and Bulkington to buy their own home.”
Mark concluded:
“This is part of our commitment to back families who have worked hard and done the right thing. By extending Right to Buy, a new generation of people will be able to achieve their dream and enjoy the security that comes from owning your own home.”
