Rugby and Bulkington MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed the news that the number of people in work across the UK is at a record level.
The rate of women in work is also at the highest level since comparable records began, and that according to last week’s figures there are 184,516 more people back in work in the West Midlands compared to 2010.
In Rugby and Bulkington, the number of people claiming the key out of work benefits has fallen by 1,250, a drop of nearly 70% since 2010.
As well as the employment continuing at a record-high, recent figures show that the unemployment rate is holding steady, average wages are growing ahead of inflation and the number of children living in workless households is down.
Mark commented:
“These recent record breaking figures show that Britain’s economy continues to grow and the benefits of this are being felt by families here in Rugby and Bulkington. Our focus is now on building an economy that works for everyone, to make sure that even more local families benefit from these opportunities.”
Mark continued:
“Since the Conservatives came to power 6 years ago, those on the lowest pay have seen their wages steadily rise, the National Minimum Wage has increased to £6.70, the National Living Wage has been introduced and tax reforms have reduced income tax for millions of people and taken millions more out of tax altogether. In that time, here in Rugby, unemployment has fallen by 68% and the number of young people not in work in Rugby has fallen by 48% in the last year alone.”
Mark concluded:
“Despite the incredibly positive jobs news, I know that there are still people locally who are facing challenges and I will continue to do all I can in my capacity as Rugby and Bulkington’s MP to support them.”
