Local MP Mark Pawsey has spoken in the House of Commons to praise the work of local Job Centres in Rugby, who have been among the first six offices piloting the Government’s new welfare system, Universal Credit. Mark pointed to the successful roll-out of Universal Credit, and invited the Secretary of State to recognise their good work.
During Parliamentary Questions to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mark asked:
‘He will be aware the Rugby jobcentre is among the first six offices to introduce universal credit. Will he join me in complimenting the staff there on achieving a successful roll-out in a complicated procedure?’
Speaking afterwards, Mark commented:
‘Sorting out the welfare system was a key pledge of the Conservative Party at the last election, and we are delivering on that promise. The good work done in Rugby to pilot the Universal Credit scheme is helping the whole country to adopt a welfare system that works for everyone: those looking for work, and taxpayers across the country.’
Mark concluded:
‘I am proud that it is Job Centres in Rugby who have stepped forward to pilot the future of welfare, and I was pleased to highlight their good work to the Secretary of State. It is good for Rugby to have had this scheme rolled out here so early, and to have Job Centres which are leading the way in getting people back into work, and boosting Rugby’s local economy.’
