Britain has benefitted from record-breaking inward investment by foreign companies, creating 11,119 new jobs in the West Midlands according to last week’s figures which have been welcomed by Rugby MP Mark Pawsey.
In the last financial year almost 1,600 new jobs were created each week by foreign direct investment, totalling nearly 390,000 new jobs since 2010. Across the country, 2,213 projects were secured with around 116,000 jobs created or safeguarded as a result of inward investment, the second highest total on record.
Last week’s figures are the latest confirmation that the UK ranks highest in Europe for foreign direct investment.
Mark commented:
“These record-breaking figures show the West Midlands is open for business thanks to the steps the government has taken. We have strongly encouraged new businesses to invest in Britain, not only delivering jobs and growth with these direct investments but also, as we have seen with the automotive manufacturing resurgence, creating supply chains right here in the Midlands.”
Mark continued:
“There have been a number of major investments across the region over the last six years, including the decision of the London Taxi Company to invest right here in Rugby constituency with a major new factory at Ansty, due to begin production of the new Black Cab next year.”
Mark concluded:
“These results show Rugby remains a fantastic place to do business as we begin to forge a new role for Britain in the world and negotiating our own trade agreements. This will continue to make investing in Britain attractive and deliver a country that works for everyone no matter where you live.”
