Rugby’s MP Mark Pawsey spoke this week in the Chamber of the House of Commons about the innovative approach local cement manufacturer, CEMEX, has taken to reducing their energy bills and cutting back their carbon emissions through the use of ClimaFuel.
ClimaFuel is derived from household waste, such as paper, wood and textiles and both reduces the amount of landfill waste whilst improving the competitiveness of heavy industry by reducing their fuel bills.
Using the opportunity to question the Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, Andrea Leadsom MP, Mark asked the Minister about the steps the Government is taking to support energy intensive businesses such as CEMEX.
The Minister, in her response, welcomed the initiative by CEMEX and spoke about the work taking place across Government to promote the use of alternative fuels and support the energy-intensive industrial sector.
Speaking after Energy Questions, Mark said:
“As many local residents will know, ensuring that we have a strong industrial base is vital for our long term economic future. I welcome that CEMEX have invested locally in the production and use of alternative, low carbon fuel to help meet their energy needs.”
Mark continued:
“During my time as MP, I have had the opportunity to visit CEMEX’s Rugby site on number of occasions and learn more about their use of recycled material as fuel. ClimaFuel is a fantastic example of the circular economy, which drastically reduces waste and pollution, alongside allowing our heavy industry to remain competitive through reducing the cost of energy.”
Mark concluded:
“I was delighted to learn that following the appointment of the new Prime Minister, Theresa May MP, she has reformed the Government to create a new Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy which will take the lead on these issues. I know that in the coming days, the Government will continue to work closely with business and industry to provide a comprehensive strategy to tackle the challenges they face.”
Martin Casey, Director of Public Affairs & Communications for CEMEX added:
“CEMEX is pleased to know that our local MP for Rugby, Mark Pawsey is voicing support in Parliament for the company and our use of Climafuel which helps us be more sustainable and remain competitive and therefore brings benefits both to the local community and our employees.”
