Mark welcomed Roy Adams, aged 83 years from Alwyn Road, when he presented a donation of £2000 to the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team at the Hospital of St Cross.
Roy had secured the donation from the Zipper Bowling Association, after reading of Mr Pawsey’s visit to the hospital a month ago in the local press.
Mr Adams said:
“I think I was one of the first people to have open heart surgery as I had mine some 31 years ago” Roy explained “ I‘ve also had seven heart attacks so I know how important the rehabilitation services are.”
The Zippers were founded in 1996, and are a national group of Green Bowlers who have undergone heart surgery. The group, which comprises 200 members including founding member Roy, raise money in support of hospital cardiac care services across the country.
On receiving the donation, for UHCW Charity, with Mary Morton of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Team, Mark said:
“It’s great for local people who have undergone heart surgery in the past to know that this service is available at their local hospital. I’m very grateful to Roy and the Zippers for their very kind donation. It will enable the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit to continue with the fantastic work they do.”
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit supports people who have had a heart attack or heart surgery, helping them to gain a level of fitness and wellbeing through exercise in a safe and friendly environment and by giving advice on a healthy lifestyle. The donation will be used to help fund gym equipment for the unit.
