Rugby MP Mark Pawsey (far right) recently joined staff and the Mayor of Rugby, Cllr Sally Bragg, at Paddox Primary School for the opening of the schools their new extension.
Rugby MP Mark Pawsey has welcomed recently published Ofsted figures that show schools in Warwickshire are continuing to improve, with 14 more rated “Good” or “Outstanding” compared to March 2015.
This includes over 70% of Rugby’s primary schools which are rated as “Good” or “Outstanding.” In Warwickshire, the number of “Good” and “Outstanding” schools has increased from 189 to 203 between March 2015 and November 2016.
Across the country the proportion of all schools judged to be good or outstanding at their most recent inspection was 89 per cent, the highest proportion ever recorded. This trend could be seen both at primary and secondary schools judged at these ratings continuing to rise in every region of the country.
As a result, almost 1.8 million more children are now in good schools compared to 2010.
Mark said:
“These figures, which show a clear improvement for schools across the country, are a sign that the reforms we have introduced for schools are working. Here in Rugby, we are particularly lucky to have a range of schools to suit all pupils and we can be particularly pleased with the outstanding record of the town’s primary schools.”
Mark continued:
“However, there is more work to be done to ensure that every child gets the best start in life. That is why I welcome that the Government is currently consulting on measures to allow new selective schools, like the grammar schools we have in Rugby, to open. This will allow for more excellent school places around the country and ensure that more opportunities are available for children in Rugby to attend our local grammar schools.”
Mark concluded:
“The government is also looking at the opportunities of harnessing the resources and expertise of universities, independent and faith schools. Alongside building on the progress we have made we must continue to ensure that where problems in schools are identified, swift action is taken so that all children get the excellent education they deserve.”
