Rugby MP Mark Pawsey visited The Academy development on Lower Hillmorton Road in the town to see how the former college site is being transformed by Bellway Homes into a new community.
Mark joined the National House Building Council’s Regional Director Paul Edwards, Bellway Sales Director Ben Smith and award-winning Bellway site manager James Kilby to take a tour around the new development, being built on the site of the former Rugby College.
Site manager James Kilby has won two prestigious awards for his work at The Academy, including one NHBC Seal of Excellence award.
Speaking after the visit, Mark commented:
“It is important that as we build the new homes our communities need, we make sure that they fit in well with the established local area. That is why I was delighted to be able to visit The Academy, where Bellway have preserved many of the old trees from the former college site which gives the area its unique character.”
Mark continued:
“I was particularly keen to talk to Bellway about the impact that Help to Buy has had on the housing market. Many families hoping to buy their own home have benefitted from this scheme and I was very pleased to see that although the site is very new, there is already a great sense of community in the area.”
Mark concluded:
“It was clear from my visit why James and his team have won a Seal of Excellence. The Lower Hillmorton Road development is a great example of how old brownfield sites can be revitalised to create a new community and I hope that the practices that have been recognised here in Rugby will be used throughout the industry.”
Ben Smith, Sales Director for Bellway East Midlands, added:
“We were delighted to welcome Mark Pawsey to The Academy to have a look around the development and to see how the site is becoming a thriving community. We’re very proud to have been able to help so many buyers onto and up the property ladder in Rugby, particularly through the use of Help to Buy. It’s been one of our most successful sites to date and it was especially gratifying to introduce Mark to one of our happy buyers, who told him first-hand how the community is beginning to thrive at The Academy.”
