Rugby MP Mark Pawsey spreads the word for affordable and secure computers, having been advised about the GetOnline@Home initiative and wants to alert his constituents about the benefits that could be available to them.
GetOnline@Home aims to give everybody the opportunity to get onto the internet in their own home. Supported by Microsoft and Race Online 2012, the ambition is to make the UK the first nation in the world where everyone can use the web, and they have developed an affordable offer which takes away the cost barrier of owning a computer.
Mark said:
“Access to an affordable PC has become a significant barrier to getting online the nine million people in the UK who have never used the internet. Internet access at home will enable all to benefit from the many advantages that most people experience every day.”
Mark added:
“Two million PCs are refurbished in the UK every year, usually by small businesses who are partners of Microsoft and these can provide a low cost solution to providing a PC for beginners.”
He concluded:
“Access to the internet can mean easy contact with friends and family, increased skills for employment, the potential for lower household bills and better access to information from various agencies. I believe that this could be the ideal solution for those families or individuals who otherwise would be unable to afford it.”
