Last week Mark met with Professor Andy Hardy, Chief Executive Officer of University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust, to discuss healthcare provision for Rugby residents. UHCW includes the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.
Mark discussed a range of issues with Professor Hardy including the introduction of new services at the Hospital of St Cross, car parking charges in Rugby and at University Hospital and access to the University Hospital site.
Mark commented:
“Since becoming Rugby’s MP in 2010 I have fought for the retention and expansion of services at the Hospital of St Cross and I regularly meet with Professor Hardy to discuss the provision of healthcare for local residents.”
Mark continued:
“I know that doctors, nurses and other staff working within UHCW NHS Trust work incredibly hard to ensure that local people receive the best possible care. Rugby residents are rightly proud of the Hospital of St Cross and I know how valuable the hospital is to our town. I want to see as many services as possible offered locally and I am pleased that in recent years we have seen an expansion of services provided at St Cross, such as the new children’s outpatients unit which opened last year, but I want to see further services offered here in Rugby as the town grows.”
Mark concluded:
“During my meeting with Professor Hardy I was reassured of the importance of St Cross and learnt more about the plans to invest substantially in the site in the coming years to provide more services for Rugby. I will always fight for more services at our local hospital and as our town grows our argument for additional services increases; an argument I will continue to make in the strongest terms at every opportunity.”
Professor Andy Hardy, Chief Executive Officer of UHCW NHS Trust, said:
“It was good to meet with Mark last week to discuss the latest developments at the Hospital of St Cross and University Hospital, and our plans for the future. We are treating more patients at the Hospital of St Cross than ever before, and have also seen lots of new services coming to the hospital over the last year. These include the Friends Blood Taking Unit, which opened in December and has already helped to reduce waiting times for patients.
“We are committed to maintaining and expanding the services we provide in Rugby, and there are also lots of exciting plans for the future.”
